ARTIST STATEMENT
My early ideals of art was shaped by and linked through photographs all around the wall in my parents’ house, painting by my uncle who is an artist as well as photographs in fashion magazines.
Those images were mythical, heroic, beautiful, powerful and embodied a particular status that I wanted to be a part of. Those images also influenced the way I viewed myself which led me to investigate the way our thoughts and lifestyle have been shaped by society, culture and religion.
My works are influenced by memories, nostalgia, and ongoing political, social and relationship issues that needs to be attended to
ARTIST BIO
Ehinomen Okoeki is a Nigerian collage/mixed media artist and photographer born 1992, in the ancient city of Benin, Edo state Nigeria.
He received a BSc in Information Technology from Sikkim Manipal University India, Ghana Campus in 2016.
In 2017 he interned as a studio assistant at Victor Ehikhamenor’s studio, harnessing different forms and medium of art.
He also has a background in advertising that plunged him into being able to express himself even more through art, and his work interrogates the way our thoughts and lifestyle are mostly shaped by society, culture and religion. He lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria
